ABOUT US
Who We Are
Web Security Lab is a digital trust initiative advancing cybersecurity capacity across Africa. We exist to close the gap between rapid digital adoption and the limited security readiness that leaves people, organisations, and communities vulnerable.
As more individuals, schools, NGOs, small businesses, and public institutions move online, the knowledge and systems needed to keep them safe are not keeping pace.
Many users are left unprotected, not because they do not care about security, but because the information, tools, and support they need are often too complex, too expensive, or simply out of reach.
Web Security Lab works to close that gap.
What We Do
Our work sits at the intersection of:
1. Education & Awareness – We demystify cybersecurity through training, workshops, community programmes, and public-facing content designed to make digital safety understandable and actionable.
2. Advisory & Governance Support – We help organisations strengthen their security posture with practical guidance, risk and privacy support, and tailored recommendations that match their capacity, not overwhelm it.
3. Research & Digital-Rights Advocacy – We contribute to public discourse on digital safety, data protection, and responsible technology, helping shape a future where users’ rights are recognised and protected.
Why We Exist
Three beliefs guide our mission:
1. People deserve to be safe online. Digital safety should be a right, not a privilege reserved for organisations with budgets or experts.
2. Security only works at scale when no one is left out. Knowledge matters only if people can understand it and participate in it.
3. Trust is the foundation of digital progress. Financial inclusion, e-commerce, public services, and civic participation all depend on systems people can rely on.
How We Work
We meet people where they are, whether that means:
Running a digital-safety session for first-time internet users, supporting a small organisation trying to protect its data, helping a community understand their digital rights, or contributing analysis to shape national policy conversations.
Our approach is practical, human-centred, and grounded in the realities of those most affected by insecurity.
Our Vision
A society where individuals, communities, and institutions can participate in the digital world safely with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to protect themselves and the people they serve.
